Instagram Direct starts showing web version posts | Social networks

Instagram began releasing the private messaging function on the web version for some users last Tuesday (14). The feature promises to function as the Direct Messages (DMs) of the Android and iPhone (iOS) mobile app, with unread chat counts, computer-stored photo sharing, and double-click likes. You can also receive notifications on your PC as long as the user enables website alerts in the browser.

For now, the messaging function will be made available to a group corresponding to a small percentage of users without being able to request access to the test group. DMs were one of the remarkable absences of Instagram Web. So the only official way to view messages on the computer was by using an Instagram application for Windows 10 that hasn't been updated since mid-2018.

According to information gathered by the specialized portal Aggiornamenti Lumia, the app should soon lose its function when it is converted to webapp. Although it gains speed in upgrades, it should be launched without access to DMs. In the future, however, the tendency is that messages can be accessed in both the browser and the app available from the Microsoft Store.

According to software engineer Jane Manchun Wong, Instagram has been testing the browser private messaging feature for about a year. A specialist in reverse application engineering, she also said at least two social networking functions are underway: an option to pause a Stories post with a short tap on the screen, plus a new map sticker. The news would be being developed in the mobile application and do not have release forecast.

Prior to announcing the arrival of DMs on Instagram Web, the social network released three new ways to make Boomerangs in the Stories: slow camera, Eco and Duo modes join traditional way of repeating images.
