Instagram and Facebook now let you control the time you spend on the app | Social networks

Facebook and Instagram announced a time tracking function on Wednesday (1). The tool was developed based on user feedback and in partnership with mental health experts. There have been rumors of tests of the new feature since May this year, and the final version is an activity panel with information about the time of use of the app in the last seven days, a daily reminder that alerts when there is excessive use of the network and, for finally, settings that help limit application notifications.

The settings will be configured separately on each network, and can be found on Instagram in the Your Activity section, while on the Zuckerberg network it will be under the Tempo option on Facebook. According to Facebook, the purpose of the tools is to give people greater control over their experience on the platforms: the time people spend on Instagram and Facebook should be positive, inspiring and on purpose, says the official statement.

How Time Management Features Work

In both networks a panel will be displayed with the average time of using the application on your current device. By tapping on the graphs, the user can see information such as the total usage time per day of the social network.

In addition, there is the ability to create a daily reminder. It allows you to notify when the user reaches the time he has set himself to use the app. You can change or cancel the notification at any time.

Another function concerns the limitation of notifications. To reduce notifications from social networks over a period of time, simply tap on Notification Settings to access the new Mute Push Notifications tool.
