In an interview, DJ Zane Lowe argues that Apple Music is “just getting started”

It is not new that the Apple Music is growing by leaps and bounds (as well as the rest of the streaming) and could become one of the biggest sources of revenue for Apple in the coming years.

Although the fight between Apple Music and Spotify due to the higher number of paid subscribers continue to be led by the Swedish company, the Apple service is right behind and, in 2018, the difference in paid subscribers in the United States and Canada narrowed to less than 1 million people, as reported by The Globe and Mail.

Subscribers in the US and Canada

According to the report, the Apple service has 27.6 million of paid subscribers in the US and Canada, while its Swedish rival closed the last year with 28.2 million customers in those countries. In an interview with the newspaper, the DJ and presenter of radio Beats 1, Zane Lowe, attributed this growth, in part, to Apple’s digital influence.

We are, in fact, the fusion of art and technology. Every time there is a significant shift in the distribution of the digital age, it goes through the Apple ecosystem.

As for the fact that Spotify still leads the number of subscribers in the US and worldwide, Lowe argued that Apple Music is “just getting started” and that the service has only been available for 4 years (while Spotify has been around for 12) in what he believes it is a “long era of streaming“.

According to analyst Mark Mulligan, the growth of Apple Music depends not only on improving the service’s features, but also on its visibility. According to him, the company could include subscriptions to the service when purchasing an Apple device, for example.

Mulligan also said that artists should use Apple’s and Spotify’s services more to circumvent restricted label contracts and reach even more listeners. In this sense, he pointed out that Apple Music plays a fundamental role in the career of some artists, such as the case of the Canadian singer and independent composer Daniel Caesarwhose song “Get You” debuted on the Beats 1 program in 2016, granting the artist three Grammy nominations.

The fight is good.
