In addition to LG, Samsung will also supply screens for the iPad

Corroborating a rumor that ran the web at the end of March, the DigiTimes today announced that Samsung will supply screens for the iPad along with LG Display.

On its tablet, Apple opted for S-PVA screens (Super Patterned Vertical Alignment), which use 8 bits per color component, without simulation methods. This technology can offer a contrast ratio of up to 3,000: 1.

The reasons for adopting a second supplier are uncertain, but Apple may have its reasons, such as better price negotiation and a guarantee to avoid having problems and delays in the supply of components in the future.

In February alone, LG would have produced 300-400,000 LCD panels with IPS technology (In-Plane Switching) for the iPad, reaching 500,000 units in March. Both the LG and Samsung models meet all of Apple's requirements, such as being scratch resistant.
