iMacs are becoming scarce, update should be on the way

iMacs with Intel Core i7 chips also start shipping from China

Yesterday, we talked about Core i5 models; today, information has emerged that new iMacs with Intel Core i7 processors are also being shipped from China. As a result, the first units are expected to reach consumer homes in the United States within the next seven to ten days.

The Core i7 860 model is not a standard for the new iMacs, but is available as an optional configuration for $ 200 more. The chip moves to 2.8GHz, but otherwise the machine is identical to one with Core i5 750, with 8MB of L3 cache. Benchmarks Apple's preliminaries claim it is 2.4 times faster than the Core 2 Duo:

In Brazil, none of the models are available for purchase so far. The forecast is that they will land here in December, but the Apple Online Store already indicates that the Core i5 price of 2.66GHz will be R $ 7,400. This is the 27-inch version (16: 9, with 2560 × 1440 pixels resolution), with 4GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive, SuperDrive double-layer 8x and ATI Radeon 4850 graphics card with 512MB.
