iMac with Retina 8K screen in 2015? LG Display bets yes!

Last year, Apple surprised us. While many expected a iMac with Retina 4K screen, she came and launched a screen with 5K resolution. For now, only the 27-inch model has this wonderful display and many hope that this year, the 21.5-inch model will also enter the party.

But LG ignored it all and, in a press release about 8K technology, released this (emphasis added):

It is clear that Japan plans to launch a test broadcast on 8K SHV and then promptly restructure the UHD service. Apple also announced that it will launch the “iMac 8K”, with a very high resolution display, later this year. Korea is also preparing to offer a demonstration of 8K services at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. LG Display showed a piece of the Era 8K when it unveiled its 98-inch Color Prime Ultra 8K HDTV at CES 2015.

8K

What do you mean “Apple announced” that it will launch an iMac 8K this year? We know that Apple does not comment on anything about its future releases. Also, as I raised in the first paragraph, the 21.5-inch iMac hasn’t even embraced 5K technology and is Apple already going to make a new leap to an 8K display? This story is very strange …

We just haven’t completely ruled it out as LG Display is one of Apple’s main screen suppliers and, therefore, may have important information about future products that will be launched by Apple. Still, it is hard to imagine that she had her tongue in her teeth like that, releasing such important information in a totally unpretentious way.

Stranger still is to imagine Apple launching an iMac 8K and not supporting 4K on Apple TVs, as we commented earlier today.

As always, we can only wait …
