IINA media player promises to be a “modern player” for macOS

If you usually download or play videos from the internet via streaming or other applications on the Mac, so VLC is probably your favorite media player option. Although extremely functional, the VLC does not have a design deeply adapted to macOS which is not bad, but could be different.

Thinking about combo functionality and design has just been released IINA a "modern media player" for macOS that promises to be both versatile and beautiful. The app, available exclusively for Macs, was written from the Swift language and its code is available on GitHub.

IINA was born to be a modern application for macOS, from its structure to the user interface. It embraces the macOS ps-Yosemite design language and keeps pace with new technologies like Force Touch, Touch Bar and Picture-in-Picture.

As above, the player supports some Mac features that increase productivity and the interaction between software and hardware (including mouse or trackpad gestures). In addition, the application has support for macOS Mojave 10.14 Dark Mode and a customizable interface.

Despite the focus on video, the player also features standalone Music Mode, designed for audio files and unlimited playback history. The app also displays video thumbnails online and from all over timeline (as on YouTube), as well as online subtitle search and smart matching with downloaded subtitles.

IINA is compatible with macOS 10.11 or later and can be downloaded from its official website (DMG) or then from MacUpdate. The developer recommends using it with Mojave for the best experience and feature support of the new Mac operating system.
