As usual, Apple makes it difficult to access the machine using special screws in the style "Pentalobe" This is not a problem for the guys at iFixit, who are experts on the subject.

Some highlights of what they found there:

  • Once again it is incredible to see how much of the interior of these machines is now dominated by the battery. The look itself has hardly changed compared to last year's model, however.
  • The flash memory module connector was changed by Apple, although at first glance it seemed to be identical to its predecessor. The SSD itself is based on the SandForce controller, also bringing Toshiba references.
  • The Wi-Fi (BCM4322) and Bluetooth (BCM20702) chips, both from Broadcom, are the same as last year.
  • Just like the new MacBooks Pro with Retina display, these new Airs also have a new fan with asymmetric blades for quieter operation.
  • The machine has a new microphone.
  • Replacing a defective trackpad is now easier than ever.
