Huawei wants to have 175 Portuguese apps in its AppGallery store in the first quarter

The numbers today shared by Huawei in a meeting with journalists show the evolution of the brand's application store, which already had more than 1.3 million registered developers and 55 thousand applications, a significant growth compared to 910 thousand developers registered in August 2019 and 40 thousand applications.

The company has placed a very large focus on this area, especially with the uncertainty of maintaining the use of Google Mobile Services, following the economic embargo placed by the United States in May 2019 with the inclusion of Huawei on the "black list" of entities with who the country does not do business. The smartphones sold in 2019 have all Google Mobile Services, but the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, launched this year, already has the Android version open source with Huawei Mobile Service, and the AppGallery.

During the Web Summit, Toby Heap, AppGallery Operation Manager, explained the company's logic and the way it was working with developers and development companies, a common incentive program linked to a billion dollar fund for producers and an 85% revenue share during the first two years of the partnership.

The company is working directly in each country to develop the ecosystem and has made presentations in about thirty countries, including Portugal, and the goal is to have more than 90% of the apps normally used by its customers in its app store by the end of the first quarter. .

In December Tiago Flores told SAPO TEK that the App Gallery already had more than 50 Portuguese applications, including SAPO apps, but the number has now been updated to 68 apps, including ID Gov, where you can store the Citizen's Card and the Driving License in digital format, that of RTP and Expresso, among others. The goal is to reach 175 by the end of the first quarter of 2020.

Tools to innovate in applications

Tiago Flores admitted to SAPO TEK that the fact of being able to bring developers a wide range of development kits has been an advantage perceived by the community, which also values the greater openness of the code that allows developing services faster and with better experience of use.

The concept of Seamless Life that Huawei has been defending puts the smartphone at the center of an ecosystem of equipment, all connected and all in tune with the information and needs of users. And this ecosystem presented by Tiago Flores as one of the great advantages of Huawei Mobile Services.

Huawei guarantees to be prepared to give developers access to tools that allow them to develop more innovative applications and that is why it has been developing a series of Kits, covering the needs of an application's services, such as connection to location, wallets or identity, among others.

Altogether there are already 24 kits available through the Huawei Mobile Services APK and the idea is that this number will continue to be reinforced throughout 2020.

"Most applications only use 3 or 4 kits […] In just 5 months we delivered 24 production kits to place applications inside the store, the industry took almost 10 years to get here," said Tiago Flores.
