Huawei presents new phones

Huawei announced on Thursday, 26, the line of smartphones P40, which should occupy the post of the main family of devices of the manufacturer. There are three new devices: the P40, the P40 Pro and the P40 Pro +.

Known for being a tit of the photos, the P line took great care in the camera and made a carnival of absurd specifications. The Pro +, the most sophisticated device in the family, has a set with five cameras: the main one has 50 MP and is accompanied by an ultra-wide angle (40 MP), a 10x telephoto (8 MP) for longer distances, a telephoto 3x (8MP) for short distances and a 3D ToF (time of flight) sensor.

The device has a 10x optical zoom and even has a maximum zoom of 100x, two brands suitable for cell phones until then. The sensor is 1 / 1.28 inches larger than the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which should guarantee good photos in poor lighting conditions.

Among the artificial intelligence resources for photography, in which the company bets several chips, Huawei announced improvements such as artificial removal of reflections caused by glass surfaces or unwanted people that end up appearing in photos. Improvements in night mode and video zoom, which already attracted attention on the P30, also received updates.

In the front set, there are two lenses: a 32 MP and a ToF sensor.

Prices are 800 (P40), 1,000 (P40 Pro) and 1,400 (P40 Pro +). The first two will be available from April 7, while Pro + will be available from June 20. Still no information on sales in Brazil, although the company has been trying to keep the flow of launches constant to the country.

Other specifications

The processor manufactured by the company itself: the HiSilicon Kirin 990, with built-in 5G, with an improvement of 23% in the CPU and 39% in the GPU – according to the company, there is an increase in energy efficiency of 23%.

The P40 Pro and Pro + have a 4,200 mAh battery, while the P40 3,800 mAh. All have a 40 W wireless charger.

The P40 Pro and Pro + have a 6.58-inch Oled screen (2,640 x 1,200 pixels) and a refresh rate of 90Hz, lower than that of the S20 Ultra, which is 120Hz. The P40 has a 6.1-inch screen with 2,340 x 1,080 resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate.

The memory and storage combo are as follows: 8 GB and 128 GB (P40), 8 GB and 256 GB (P40 Pro) and 8 GB and 512 GB (P40 Pro +).

No Google

In the presentation, Richard Yu, president of the company's consumer division, recalled the U.S. ban on American companies from doing business with Huawei. Thus, the executive recalled that the company cannot use Google services, such as Gmail, Google Maps and the Play Store.

Despite having Android 10, the new phones have apps from Huawei App Gallery. Yu presented robust numbers, like 400 million active users, but once again called for developers. Currently, the lack of Google services is seen as one of the weaknesses and one of the major challenges of Huawei phones.
