'How to void my vote' and 'who to vote for' are Google's most popular topics

«How to cancel the vote?», Followed by «How to justify the vote?» and «What if I don’t vote?» are the most searched terms on Google when it comes to the 2018 Elections. With less than a month to go until voting day, the Brazilian seems not to be excited about candidates for the presidency of Brazil. The question «Who to vote for in 2018» comes in fourth place, revealing doubt even among those who intend to appear at the polls on October 7.

Google has just launched two tools dedicated to electoral elections: the Elections 2018 page, a Google Trends data center on the topic, and the website In search of the Candidate. It is important to note that both Google pages show Brazilians ‘interest in related matters, but do not represent voters’ intention to vote.

The special page Elections 2018 brings data updated in real time, and displayed according to the period of each topic. The highlight of the Google Trends Data Center goes to the search volume per candidate in the last seven days. In the graph, it is possible to click on each candidate to see more data related to him, such as the regions in which he is most searched and the related questions.

The website also shows the fluctuation of interest in candidates in the last 30 days, in addition to allowing to discover which are the central themes that most attract the attention of voters. According to Google data, health has the highest volume of searches, followed by education. Employment, taxes and crime appear together in the top 5 of the most prominent subjects in the last 24 hours.

«Searching for a candidate» seeks to offer an interactive solution to find out what people are looking for in relation to each candidate. Optimized for mobile devices, the platform allows you to compare the most sought after topics among presidential candidates, in addition to offering an overview of people’s interest over time.
