After spending three months in Rio de Janeiro *, I realized that many high-end device owners do not know half the potential of their smartphones. But what really struck me was the fact that most owners of the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge believe the portrait mode of the iPhone 7 Plus is an exclusive feature of Apple. So today I decided to publish this tutorial on blurring the background of images on Galaxy S7 and have the same effect as Portrait mode iPhone 7 Plus.
How to access the feature on Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge
To use the camera feature to blur the background of photos you take with the Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge, you must first select "Selective Focus" mode as the default. To do so, follow these steps:
- Launch the camera app on your Galaxy S7;
- Slide your finger across the screen from left to right;
- Select the "Selective Focus" mode.
note: Remember that HDR mode should be enabled or disabled normally from the camera software main screen.
One of the only restrictions for using this mode is that the camera lens is less than 50 cm away from the object in focus.

Remember that Android itself natively brings this camera feature under the name of "focus effect" (check out this video). Although it's a bit inconvenient to use, please be aware that the feature has been around since April 2014.
