How to unlock your Android smartphone

Basically, your smartphone or tablet is a computer in a smaller box, and like every computer it also crashes, freezes or stops working at the worst times. What to do when this happens? Here are some tips for getting your device working again.

Force close an app

If an app simply crashes and doesn't work, you might think that clicking the start button will solve the problem. Unfortunately, it only takes you to homescreen and keeps the app running in the background. To force an application to close, there are a few methods.

V at Settings> Applications, look for the crashed app, click it and then Stop.

This will close the application, and you can restart it shortly afterwards without any problems.

Reset your phone

One of the simplest methods of dealing with problems on your device is to simply restart it. If you still have access to your device controls and they are reacting, you just have to click and hold the on / off button. A notification will appear with some options. Select Shut down and wait a few seconds. To turn it on again, press the same button until the screen lights up.

Force the restart

If your phone is completely locked, the reset method described above will not be accessible. The only solution, then, is to force your restart.

On most Android devices, you can force your device to restart by pressing and holding both the power and volume down buttons simultaneously until the screen goes out. To restart it, click the power button again. Note that this command may vary from device to device. On Nexus 7, I need to press the power button and both volume buttons for a few seconds. If you have questions, check your device documents to find out how to get your restart.

Another way to restart your device when possible is to remove and reinsert the battery.

Restore original configuration

If none of this works, you can also restore the original configuration. But beware: this should be the last resort, as doing so will erase everything you downloaded to your smartphone.

To restore the factory setting, go to Settings> Back Up and Reset. Then click on Original setting and confirm.
