The website of the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) offers to download thousands of theses and dissertations published by several universities such as USP, UERJ, UFPB, UFMG, UNB. The platform is an initiative of the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology, an organ linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications. With free access, the portal is an important source of knowledge and can be used for studies, research on certain topics and to find texts that serve as a basis for the development of other works.

You do not need to register to browse the site. Just enter a term and use several filters to refine results, such as publication institution, authors, type of document, subject and language of the document. Step 1. Access the Library of Theses and Dissertations website (bdtd.ibict.br/vufind/) and type a term in the search bar. Then, define how the search will be done. You can choose whether the search will be by title, author or subject that are associated with the term you entered. Then, select the Ā«SearchĀ» option;

Step 2. On the screen with the search results, the site will present several filters that allow you to refine the answers. The first filter refers to the educational institutions to which the texts are related. The number of texts for each university will be displayed next to the name of each one. To refine the search, just choose one of these institutions;

Step 3. With the Ā«RepositoryĀ» filter, choose a specific database for publications. The repositories are digital libraries from different universities;

Step 4. The Ā«ProgramĀ» filter allows you to choose texts linked to specific subjects. In Ā«AuthorĀ», it is possible to choose all texts signed by a specific author;

Step 5. In Ā«Advisor / aĀ» filter the results so that only the texts linked to specific advisors are displayed. In Ā«Document TypeĀ», choose whether to find theses or dissertations;

Step 6. In Ā«LanguagesĀ», choose texts available in specific languages. Pay attention to the amount of documents available within the framework. In Ā«SubjectĀ», the system shows the total number of themes related to the terms you used in the search;

Step 7. The system also offers a list of subjects in English present in your search. It is also possible to filter by areas of knowledge;

Step 8. Finally, it is possible to define a defense period related to the texts. To choose a publication, click on its description;

Step 9. The screen will display a preview of the text and other pertinent information, such as which university it was published in, present terms and area of āāknowledge. To view the download page, click on the link indicated in the image below;

Step 10. Under Ā«Files associated with this itemĀ», click Ā«Download / OpenĀ» to start downloading the document.
