1. Change the default keyboard

Eventually, Gboard crashes can be caused by an application update. In these cases, opting for the system’s native keyboard should allow the user to be able to type on the phone again, while developers do not provide an update with the error correction in Gboard.

To do this on Android phones, access the settings and slide the screen to find the «Language and input» tab. Then tap on «Standard keyboard» and select your smartphone’s branded keyboard option. It is worth mentioning that some devices do not have native keyboards – the solution is to download another application of the same resource to replace the Gboard temporarily.

To perform the process on the iPhone, go to «Settings» and tap «General». Then, slide the screen and tap «Keyboard». Then, tap on the native resource of the system, represented by the option «Portuguese (Brazil)».

The classic and simple option of restarting the phone can solve the problem of Google’s virtual keyboard, this is because several processes are being executed in the background on the smartphone and some of these actions can eventually hinder the functioning of the Gboard.

When the user performs this procedure, some temporary files on the phone are cleaned, freeing up space in the RAM memory for the phone to work without errors and restarting all application processes. Press the phone’s power button and tap «Restart». On the iPhone, it is necessary to turn the phone off and on again.

3. Disable other system keyboards

The Android system allows the user to activate more than one keyboard on the phone. However, this feature can generate errors and cause Gboard to fail. Disabling the other typing tools available may correct the problem.

End by disabling the keyboards available on your device, except Gboard. On the iPhone, go to «Settings» and «General». Touch «Keyboard» and «Edit». Press the «-» icon next to each option, except Gboard. Finish with «OK».

4. Clear Gboard cache

Cache data stores system files and allows applications to run faster. However, accumulating this information can result in Google’s virtual keyboard failures if any of the stored files are corrupted. As the data is still stored in cache memory, Gboard will have problems even after updating the app. Therefore, clearing the cache is one of the possible solutions to the problem.

6. Enable Gboard as the default phone keyboard

Although the user has not installed other keyboards on the phone, some applications have the feature built in. Therefore, you can download a banking app and purchase the tool without knowing it. Leaving more than one keyboard active on the cell phone can cause eventual failures. So keeping only Gboard as the default phone keyboard can solve the problem.

On Android devices, access your phone settings and press «Languages and text». Under «Keyboard and input methods» tap «Standard». In the menu that will appear on the screen, tap «Choose keyboards». Then, disable all keyboards, even Gboard. Then, activate only the Google keyboard.
