How to recover WhatsApp data on new devices and numbers

Changing your cell phone and don't want to lose your data? Fortunately, by backing up the settings of both the device and the applications used, you can transfer the content in a simple way.

WhatsApp is an example, as it allows you to restore messages, stickers and media files, such as photos and videos, in a few steps. The process is simple even when it is necessary to transfer the contents to a new number.

Check out how to continue your conversations where you left off.

1. Backup your WhatsApp

recommended to be connected to a WiFi network to save data consumption. On your old phone and number, open WhatsApp, tap the three dots at the top right and select "Settings".

On the new screen, tap Conversations> Conversation Backup and select the green "Backup" button. Set the cloud storage service (on Android, for example, the most common Google Drive). So wait.

You can customize the options according to the operating system, determining the automatic periodicity and choosing the one that best applies to your user profile, for example.

2. Install the SIM card

In your new device, insert the SIM card, install the application and do not, for now, add an account with the new number. If you have restored the full backupof data, this part is simpler, since the application will probably already be on your home screen.

Note: recommended to perform these steps with WiFi turned off.

3. Configure your new number

Now it's time to start the number transfer. On the "Settings" screen, touch Account> Change number> Next e enter the old and new numbers as indicated on the screen. WhatsApp will send a verification code; insert it. The accounts will be linked.

Note: Sometimes WhatsApp recognizes the code without you having to enter it.

4. Perform a new backup without selecting the cloud service

In this step, it is important to pay attention. Performing a backup with the new number links the data of the old number. However, do not save it to the same location (Google Drive, for example), as you run the risk of overwriting the information and losing track record.

Again, just click on "Settings", on the new screen, tap Conversations> Conversation Backup and select the green "Backup" button after making the necessary adjustments.

5. Restore the data

Activate WiFi and open WhatsApp on your new device. Finally, log in with the new number. The app will give you the option of restoring history.

From there, just wait for the process to finish and enjoy your new smartphone.
