How to open the SIM card slot without a standard tool

Remember where you keep your SIM tools those little metal things you occasionally get with a new phone? No, me neither, but don't despair. Luckily for me, and for you, I've banked MacGyver to solve SIM and microSD card slot issues many times. Here are some useful ways to open the SIM card slot without a SIM tool.

What do you have near you?

Earring or Piercing

The right tool for the job may be closer than you think, perhaps in your own body. Finer traditional earrings or hooks work better. For too many, you may need to disassemble the prop somehow. Some piercings may be too large to serve as SIM tray openers, but sometimes worth a try.

Paper clip

Probably the next most common thing if you work in an office. It's not just plastic-coated chubby clips that will help, but just about any normal small paper clip will make the SIM tray eject. And, when you are done, you can use it to attach several pieces of paper together.

Needle

If you sew socks and pants as much as I do (you don't wanna know), then you have a needle giving soup around the house somewhere. Just use the end with the hole in the SIM eject drawer and press down on the edge of a table. I advise you not to try this using your hand. And be careful not to use the pointed part, it may damage your device.

Pin / Clamp

Another universal object in every home and office is the pin. There are many shapes and sizes, but virtually all of them are capable of opening the SIM tray. If you are thinking outside the box, you probably already realized that you could also use a staple. Again, beware of the pointed part.

Of course, there are many other alternatives as well, including a toothpick, safety pin or basically anything else that you have.
