Step 1. Download and install the Duolingo app on your phone. When opening it for the first time, tap "Start now" and choose "Italian";

Step 2. Select the reason why you want to learn Italian on your own and define your daily goal of study and press "Continue";

Step 3. In the next step, choose whether you want to start from basic Italian or take a placement test. That done, start answering questions or testing;

Step 4. After finishing the first test, you can create a free profile by tapping on the indicated button. It is possible to enter the requested information or use your Facebook or Google account;

Step 5. You must complete basic Italian levels to unlock new content. To do this, tap on the topic you want to study and press "Start". Tap on the heart icon in the upper right corner to manage your lives;

Step 6. When answering questions, the mechanics vary according to the type of question, but usually just tap on items to form phrases or select objects. New words appear dashed and the translation can be revealed by touching it;

Step 7. In the tabs located at the bottom of the screen you can access your profile to see your achievements and friends, compete in study leagues and see the store to buy lives and other optional items.
