Change the default Android notification ringtone
All Android devices will ring a standard notification ringtone unless a specific application uses a different ringtone. If you want to change this sound, here is what you should do:
- Open Android Settings
- Click on Sound
- Click Notification Default Sound
- A list of different notification sounds will appear. Click on a ringtone to hear it and then click OK to select it. And ready!

Standard notification sounds are always boring. What do you think?
Depending on the Android version and phone manufacturer, the name for this setting may vary slightly, or you may need to look for this setting elsewhere. For example, in Pixel 2, running Android 8.0 (Oreo), you have to open Android settings, select Sound and then Default Ringtone. To set notification sounds, you have to click Advanced, also in the Sound menu.
On an older model, for example, an LG G4 running an Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), you will have to open the Android settings, select Notification Ringtones and then Ringtone.

Change WhatsApp Notification Ringtones
Apps like Facebook or Gmail usually have their own notification sounds, but you can easily change them if you wish. The procedure may vary with each app. We will show an example with WhatsApp.
- Open WhatsApp
- Click on the three dots to open the menu on the right side of the top of the screen.
- Click Settings and then Notifications.

Change Facebook Messenger notification ringtones
The almost so popular Facebook Messenger also has a standard feel that ensures confusion. It is better to go to the menu on the rightmost tab after installation to change the ringtone.

Facebook Messenger comes with a wide range of ringtones, but you can't use your own custom ringtones. In Facebook Messenger Lite, there is no way to change the ringtone. Here you can set your phone to only vibrate without sound or to use only LED notification. However, there are no custom notifications for conversations or groups in Facebook Messenger.
Make your own notification sound
Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to Android ringtones, you can also create and use your own. Connect your Android smartphone to a PC, open the main internal memory folder and navigate to the Notifications folder.
If this folder does not exist, you can simply create it. Copy your notification sound files to this folder, and they will be accessible on your phone. You can also use apps like Zedge, which offers many free notification ringtones.
