Word allows you to add citations and bibliography automatically to documents. The resource is useful for those who produce formal texts, such as articles and academic works. Unfortunately, the tool does not support Brazilian Standards approved by the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT). However, it is possible to use ISO 690, the system on which the NBRs were based.

Step 1. Place the text cursor where you want to add the quote. Now, in the "References" tab, click on "Insert Citation" and go to "Add New Bibliographic Source …";

Step 2. Select the font type, enter the data and press "OK". If you want to add other information, check the option "Show All Bibliography Fields";

Step 3. Then, to add new citations from the same source and author, just click on "Insert Quote" and choose the desired option.

Add automatic bibliography

Step 1. With all citations registered in Word, it is possible to add a bibliography automatically. To do this, still in the "References" section, click on "Bibliography" and again on "Bibliography";

Step 2. All bibliographic references used in citations will be listed in alphabetical order;

Step 3. The formatting of the references can be changed in "Style". There is no option to use Brazilian NBRs, but you can choose ISO 690, which is very similar.
