How refurbished Google News works | Feeds

Google launched a completely redesigned news service. In order to help users navigate the content gap that appears on the internet every day, the company announced the new Google News that now has its own application. According to the Mountain View giant, the app combines artificial intelligence with human intelligence (journalistic production) to keep people informed.

The app will automatically replace Google Play Newsstand on Android phones. It started to be released and be available to everyone including iPhone users (iOS) until next week.

AI and machine learning

Using artificial intelligence techniques that analyze the flow of news published online in real time, Google Notcias understands which people, things and places are involved in the reports, and organizes the publications in narrative lines. Thus, the reader can follow the development of the stories of interest, in addition to understanding what is happening and what are the repercussions of the events.

New app and more comprehensive coverage

When entering the application, the user will find the section For you and view a personalized list of the main news of the moment. A mix of the most important headlines, local news and the latest events on topics of interest. The software contains content from a variety of sources. The more the app is used, the better the recommendations tend to get.

The Manchetes tab shows the most relevant news in general, even divided by categories, such as Brazil, World, Science and Technology, Entertainment and Sports. Featured stories are presented in a visual format called Google for quick viewing. From natural language processing technologies, articles, photos, videos and quotes from a single subject are grouped. The user can thus access different perspectives with practicality and agility, by cell phone.

Each article displayed in any segment has a colored button that gives access to the complete coverage. This screen provides calls from multiple vehicles and, for unfolding subjects, a timeline. Comments on social networks and articles, opinions and analysis are also displayed.

The coverage completes the same for everyone. According to Google, the idea that people view the same information base from trusted sources, helping to foster more productive debates in society. The same logic applies to the Manchetes tab.

Each news brings a menu with several functions: save to read later, share, hide the vehicle and access the publication's website. On the home page, where the personalized newsletter appears, this menu also allows the individual to inform the app if they should show more or less similar materials in the future. The Favorites tab aggregates all subjects, sources and reports saved by the user.

Finally, the Publicaes section makes it easy to follow your favorite vehicles and discover new sources of information. Magazines are also available in a format optimized for mobile devices. It is also possible to subscribe to publications in a simple way, using Google's own data. The paid content can be accessed through the app itself or on the websites of the vehicles.
