HMD Global will not participate in MWC 2020

Global HMD not participating in MWC 2020

Last month, HMD Global revealed that it would be present at MWC 2020, holding a launch event on February 23, the day before the start of the mobile technology fair. Information indicated that two new smartphones would be made official, but unfortunately that will not happen.

Today (12), the company that owns the rights to Nokia Mobile issued a statement saying it has canceled its plans to participate in this year's edition. With this decision, HMD Global joins other brands that also abandoned MWC 2020, namely Sony, LG, NVIDIA, Amazon, Vivo, Intel, MediaTek, TCL and Ulefone, for example.

The statement made by the company makes it very clear that the reason for the withdrawal is related to concerns about the coronavirus, warning that "the health and safety of our employees, partners, customers and media are our first priority". The statement also stated that the company will release a new launch schedule soon.

It is worth remembering that, due to the abandonment of many brands, there is a possibility that MWC 2020 could be canceled. Information suggests that the GSMA, the company responsible for the event, should announce this Friday (14) if it intends to move forward with this year's edition.

If this happens, the organization must take several security measures to ensure the health of the participants, something that will also be adopted by Xiaomi, which recently confirmed its participation saying that it will implement some security processes to prevent its staff from China being infected. .
