Hip-Hopā€ playlist is now called ā€œRap Lifeā€

Apple Music ā€œA-List: Hip-Hopā€ playlist is now called ā€œRap Lifeā€

By surprise, the Apple Music today renamed one of its most popular playlists; now the playlist Ā«A-List: Hip-HopĀ» is called Ā«Rap LifeĀ» and won a new program on Beats 1 radio.

The news was announced by the executive of the streaming from Apple, Ebro Darden, in an interview for Billboard. In addition to the more cosmetic changes, the initiative will also expand the segment on Dardenā€™s daily program on the serviceā€™s radio.

Rap is not just a genre. It is a way of life. THE playlist #RapLife is where music lives, breathes and moves. Check it out today with #UndertheSun from @JColeNC and @Dreamville. Add to your library now.

More than songs, the board will also feature discussions about hip-hop culture, as Darden said:

THE[[playlist]Ā»Rap LifeĀ» will be updated according to the culture on this side. We will move at the speed of culture and a few weeks will be daily, as the new selected content is released.

The genre has been one of the main focuses of Apple Music as the service has also been gaining recognition in the area; Canadian singer Drakeā€™s last two projects (Ā«ScorpionĀ» and Ā«More LifeĀ»), for example, yielded more plays on Apple Music than on Appleā€™s biggest competitor, Spotify.

Therefore, it is possible to say that the change is just an effort by the Cupertino giant to compete more directly with the playlists ā€œRap Caviarā€ (from Spotify) and ā€œRap Rotationā€ (from Amazon).
