Harry Potter at Home is a “magical” alternative for children in quarantine

Information hub about the Harry Potter saga offer several activity options so that parents and teachers can introduce children to the wizard's stories

These quarantine times are challenging for many parents, who in addition to often having to maintain productivity in home office regimes also need to find ways to entertain their children without taking them away from home. And it was with this in mind that writer J.K.Rowling launched the Harry Potter At Home, an aid to parents and teachers who are confined due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative is a partnership between the author in partnership with the publishers Bloomsbury, Scholastic, Pottermore Publishing and online services specialized in audiobooks Audible and OverDrive, and should act as a hub of information and activities based on the world of Harry Potter for parents and teachers can use to entertain and educate children during quarantine.

Among the contents that can already be found on the website are some introductory materials to assist those who are being introduced to the Harry Potter universe for the first time, as explanations of some common words in books that may not be known by children and a guide explaining about who are the main characters.

In addition, some other activities that may interest children are also available, such as crossword puzzles and word searches inspired by the wizard's universe, or quizzes to test your knowledge in the books of the series. Unfortunately, all the content is available in English only, but some of them can be used even without understanding the language – for example, a video guide teaching how to draw a Niffler.

As yet, there is not a very wide variety of content on the site, but the promise is that it will always be updated with new activities that can help parents and teachers to keep children entertained during this difficult period.

Harry Potter for the whole world

But even if all the contents of the Harry Potter at Home are only available in English, the initiative makes a point of trying to reach as many people as possible in its decisions, as it knows that the universe of the saga is not loved only in English-speaking countries, but worldwide.

For this reason, another news announced that, until the end of July, all parents and teachers are free to record videos of themselves reading any of the books in the wizarding saga, without having to worry about the copyright issues that would normally be involved in these cases.

The release of copyright applies to all versions of the seven books in the original series, in all countries where these books were released, and in all the different existing translations:

Of course, some rules have yet to be followed, and these readings are only copyright-free if they are made over closed direct connections (for example, in a Skype conversation) or shared on the internal networks of educational institutions. This means that if you want to broadcast live on Twitch by reading one of the wizard's books, or publish on YouTube a video in which there is one of the books in the series, the content will continue to be removed for copyright infringement.
