Halide’s Smart RAW feature arrives on the iPhone XS; Spark, Pocket, Dropbox and Facebook also get news!

Another wave of popular apps recently gained interesting updates on App Store. Let’s see below!

Halide

One of the most celebrated third-party camera apps on iOS, the Halide received an update that brings, for the XS and XS Max iPhones, the feature Smart RAW – which we already talked about in that article.

Basically speaking, the Smart RAW it is nothing more than a tool created by the developers of the application that enables new iPhones to capture more faithfully in raw format (RAW); in this case, this happens by turning off the devices’ native HDR Intelligent feature, replacing it with its own algorithm that, according to the creators, is more faithful to reality.

In addition to the new tool, Halide version 1.10 also has a feature that allows you to compare the photos taken with the Smart RAW with standard iPhone JPEGs; the watchOS app also received updates for the Apple Watch Series 4 screens.

All of this can be purchased on the App Store for R $ 20.

Spark

The iOS version of the hugely popular email client Spark also received a good update embracing the new Siri shortcuts.

There are three commands accepted by the app that you can activate with the digital assistant on the iPhone or iPad: you can ask Siri to open any folder in one of your accounts (for example, “Open emails marked in Spark”); fetch messages from specific senders (“Find Airbnb emails on Spark”); or jump straight to the compose screen (“Create new email in Spark”).

Despite this, Spark for iOS is not yet integrated with the Shortcuts app – that is, you cannot add the app to your own custom automation recipes. Anyway, the pre-programmed commands are already a hand in the wheel.

Spark can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Pocket

Who also won news was the Pocket, one of the best services to “read later” that we have today.

Pocket 7.0 for iOS and Android brings news to the feature Listen, which converts the saved texts into audio so that you can hear the content at times when reading is not possible. Now it’s based on Amazon’s Polly technology, which provides much more natural readings and works with any content saved in the app – before, only selected articles and texts could be converted to audio. The tool is also much more accessible – just touch the icon with the headphones on any text to access it.

In addition, the update brings some visual renovations to provide maximum focus on the content; we have new fonts and a Dark Mode that works throughout the app, not just in the reading space. Pocket can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Dropbox

One of the world’s leading cloud services, the Dropbox won a very important resource for those who store documents in image format on their servers: a search tool with support for OCR.

Dropbox app icon - Save, share

With this, when searching for a keyword in your documents saved in Dropbox, the service recognizes and scans the text of PDFs and images in popular formats (PNG, JPEG …) to search for correspondences in these files as well; previously, only text files, such as Word or Pages, were displayed. Now, the tool becomes much more intelligent and useful!

There is a detail, however: the feature is only available to paying users of the platform. At first, it works only with service subscribers Dropbox Business, for businesses; in the coming months, owners of standard subscriptions for individuals will also receive it. Who uses the free version of Dropbox, at least for now, will be left out.

Dropbox for iOS can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Facebook

Finally, the app of the largest social network in the world was updated to win a feature announced a few months ago at the F8 conference. THE Facebook is bringing to the masses its own tool for 3D photos, which creates a movement effect in your images.

The feature is exclusive for photos taken in Portrait Mode on iPhones with a dual camera (we don’t know yet if it will work with the iPhone XR); it works by “separating” the main object from the image from its background and creating an effect in which the movement of the device creates a feeling of depth, as if you were viewing a 3D image. You can view the 3D images on the feed Facebook or virtual reality devices like the Oculus Rift.

The update of the app brings the ability to view 3D photos for all users; their creation, in turn, will be released gradually over the next few weeks. Facebook, as usual, can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
