Hacked Instagram? App tests new function to recover hacked account | Social networks

Instagram announced Monday that it is testing a new security feature to make it easier for hackers to recover accounts. According to the social network statement to the technology site Motherboard, the user who is attacked must report the breach on the login page and then enter the email or phone number linked to the account. That done, it resumes profile access from a code that works only on the device on which it was requested.

In addition, Instagram has defined that by changing a username it will not be immediately available for other accounts to use. This has been done to prevent user names from being stolen after hacking attacks modify the hacked profile. There is no forecast for launching the account recovery tool, but the username lock function is already available for Android and will be implemented soon for iPhone (iOS).

The new account recovery feature will be available through the "Need more help" option on the Instagram login page. On the next page, the user must enter the email address or phone number associated with the account to receive the six digit code to redeem the profile.

If the hacker also has access to the victim's email or phone number, he will receive the code, but will not be able to use it to recover the account, as the number works only on the user's device.

The username protection feature preserves them for a certain period of time to prevent cases where hackers attack accounts just to steal the username. Thus, if an attacker obtains a profile and renames the user, the old title will not be immediately available for other accounts to use, and the attacked user will be able to retrieve the name upon retrieving the account.
