Growing number of complaints from Mac users with SuperDrives

Virgin DiscThe need for SuperDrive to install Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard has raised a number of complaints above the normal, related to this indispensable component to install it. O AppleInsider quotes the testimony of a developer who reported a failure to recognize the new system's disk when inserting it into his Mac mini, which now serves no purpose to open content on any other media.

The same developer also mentioned the similar problem of a friend whose MacBook Pro is unable to mount DVDs, even with the replacement of the SuperDrive. However, the case appears to be repeating itself in situations that go beyond the launch of Snow Leopard, with several reports on Apple's support forums.

Two models are being highlighted in the complaints: the “MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E” and the “HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N”, although others are also listed there. Perhaps they have had difficulty assembling discs since their manufacture, believing that they are rarely used (or almost never).

The worst is the maximum that Apple can do to replace the defective drives with others, but as this is not showing results in several cases, some flaw in system software and / or firmware is still being considered.
