Google Street View Snowmobile

To celebrate the start of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Google has prepared a special page, available in 40 languages, combining a table of medals in real time, news, programming and event results with very interesting images: 3D models and Street View images of the competition venues, as well as aerial images of the Vancouver region and Whistle.

In order to obtain images of the gorge of several descents from the Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, the Street View team created a snowmobile equipped with 360º cameras. And as with the technology used in Google’s cars (and tricycle), these cameras are also able to capture all the details of the landscape and allow the user to have an interactive photo browsing experience.

“And as a gift for sports fans, check out the Google homepage from February 12th to 28th for a special doodle. The traditional Google logo will be replaced every day with images celebrating the Winter Games. You’ll find the most up-to-date schedules, event results and medal chart with a simple Google search, ” highlighted the internet company.
