Google Street View already offers images of a number of remote locations that would not be possible with cars and tricycles. Now, to capture the Grand Canyon, the search engine has announced a new camera-backpack system called ?Trekker?.
As shown in the photos that illustrate this post, the backpack allows you to capture areas on foot that normally could not house your Street View vehicles. The team?s first project will be the Grand Canyon, where Trekkers will collect images for soon to be displayed to Google Maps users,
?The narrow, steep ridges, exposed trails of the Grand Canyon provide the perfect terrain for our newest camera system. The Trekker, which is controlled by the operator via an Android phone, automatically gathers photos and makes it possible to collect high quality images from places that are only accessible on foot, ?published Google.
Although the project is already underway, the images of the Grand Canyon still have no date to debut.
