The demonstration was held at an event for American journalists. There are also news that contradict the criticisms raised previously, as the system did not make it clear whether the connection was made by a machine. Now, in addition to presenting the robot when initiating the call, the system starts to warn that the conversation is recorded, easing the controversy.

In the tests, restaurant employees tried to confuse the system, questioning and presenting situations outside the script. Still, Google's artificial intelligence was able to circumvent these situations and keep the task of making reservations at the restaurant. The reporters also point out that he was not able to perceive when a human operator took charge of the conversation, due to the natural voice and context presented by the robot.

The Duplex was introduced during Google I / O 2018 in May. The exercise, which involved a call to make an appointment at a commercial establishment using a robot, caught the attention of the American press, questioning the veracity of the demonstration and the technical feasibility of the technology.

According to the company, out of five calls to a commercial establishment, four can be easily resolved with some level of automation. Google Duplex will enter the testing phase through a select group of users and merchants in the United States and there are no plans to release it to the public.
