Google News gains new look with Material Design and changes functions | Productivity

Google News released a redesigned version on Monday (21) following Material Design. The concept aims to unify the look of the interfaces of all Google products. With the new "face", the web version of the news aggregator reaches the company's applications for iOS (iPhone) and Android, which already have the new interface in its most current versions. Notcias also gained new functions and abandoned some resources.

The redesign of the Google News visual language is another step in the universalization of Material Design among Google services, which this year has already promoted similar updates in Gmail, Google Drive and the experimental version of Chrome, Google Chrome Canary.

In addition to the graphic changes regarding Material Design, which values more vivid colors and "flat" design, Notcias underwent some modifications regarding usability. An example is the possibility of adding magazines to favorites, leaving a separate page for content from that source.

Another novelty is that saved searches and favorites have gained their own categories, organized in the same left menu bar. This change, however, may require adaptation from those who were used to the old navigation, since previously saved searches and preferred topics were all within a single option.

Notcias also retired a feature that allowed organizing different news on a certain subject by date, something relevant for those who follow the evolution of some subject and need to separate old news from the most recent. Other functions removed were the option to hide the results of sporting events and the possibility to manage and organize the content from the News Settings.
