Google Maps implements My Location: your approximate location on the map

Similar to the “My Location” feature on Google Maps for mobile devices, Google announced this Thursday, the desktop version of Google Maps will also display an option that makes it possible to view the user’s approximate location on the map.

“Using the new Geolocation API that allows the My Location functionality to work in any browser. You can activate My Location on Google Maps if you are using Google Chrome or Firefox 3.5 or any other web browser with Gears installed ”explained Google.

For users of the Internet Explorer browser who intend to use the functionality, Google has warned to install the latest version of the Google Toolbar that includes the integrated My Location technology. Only with the toolbar installed, the user will be able to provide their location to Google Maps.
