Google Maps for mobile has a new look. With a lighter background, new cones and rounded buttons, the app promises changes in the "Explore" tab, in order to further simplify the use and search for restaurants, stores, among other establishments and places. According to Google, the update is now available for Android and iPhone (iOS).
The upgrade comes months after the announcement of new features for the application during Google I / O, in May 2018, and now has the Material Design visual identity, as in Google Drive, Gmail and Google News.

The main changes are in the Explore tab, which has colored and round icons. In addition, the app now has a gallery with tips for eating and drinking, with different classifications according to location, such as Fast food, Frequented by locals and Restaurants to go with a group. It is also possible to view a list of places in the region that are best rated by users.
Still on the same screen, the Mais button directs you to suggestions of establishments for Eating and drinking, Cool things to do, among others. Each of these categories has subcategories, which facilitates the search for places such as banks, sales, libraries, parks, cafes, gyms, in the vicinity.

However, despite the changes, the side menu of the app remains with the old appearance, as well as the options to change the type of map between satellite, pattern or relief. The Car and Public Transport tabs only incorporated Material Design and do not present changes in functionality.
The redesigned app features all the items promised by Google in May, with the exception of the new tab "For you" (for you, in free translation), with recommendations and personal scores. According to the website Android Police, the novelty should be launched in the coming months.
