Google Lens now splits the bar bill, translates book excerpts and more | Utilities

Google Lens began receiving functions on Thursday (29) to calculate and split the bar account, show the menu's most requested dishes, translate words automatically and beyond a revamped design. In practice, this means that by pointing the phone's camera at some word or object in the "real world", the app searches for information about them and shows the result in the "virtual world", the phone screen.

One of the main new features of Google Lens is the Dinner mode, which identifies menu dishes, shows images of the food and tells which ones are the most popular according to reviews published on Google Maps. The feature also helps split the bill and tip the restaurant: just point the camera at the values on the invoice that the app calculates how much each person should shell out.

In Translate mode, Lens allows you to immediately translate printed texts in more than 100 languages, showing the result about the physical object. The user can also translate previously taken photos that are in the phone gallery feature similar to the one already existing in Google Translate.

The Text option already mimics the command Ctrl + C from the computer: with the mobile phone, the user can copy words written on paper and use the content in a WhatsApp message, for example. There is also the "Automatic" mode, which goes into action when the lens is opened by the user to identify objects, places, people and animals around.

Also new is Shopping mode, which lets you point your smartphone at barcodes or objects and find the item in online stores.
