Google today announced the Google Indoor Maps in Brazil, a feature available on Google Maps which displays the floor plan of several establishments present in more than 50 Brazilian cities and acts as a directory to help users find points of interest within these places: it can be a specific store, restaurants, stairs, elevators, baby changing facilities, access, parking etc.
In Brazil, Google Indoor Maps shows maps of airports, football stadiums and shopping centers ? there are more than 100 establishments in total (the complete list can be found on here). Some examples:
Football stadiums: Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro), Mané Garrincha (Brasília), Mineirão (Belo Horizonte), Arena Fonte Nova (Salvador) and Castelão (Fortaleza), among others that will host games of major sporting events in 2014.
- Airports: Guarulhos and Congonhas (São Paulo), Santos Dumont (Rio de Janeiro), Afonso Pena (Curitiba), Salgado Filho (Porto Alegre), Juscelino Kubitscheck (Brasília), among others.
- Shopping malls: Shopping Iguatemi, JK Iguatemi, Morumbi Shopping, Shopping Eldorado (São Paulo); Barra Shopping, New York City Center, Village Mall (Rio de Janeiro); Diamond Mall, Pátio Savassi (Belo Horizonte); Shopping Iguatemi Brasília (Brasília); Shopping Guararapes (Jaboatão dos Guararapes); Manauara Shopping (Manaus); Shopping Praia de Belas (Porto Alegre); among many others.
The resource can be accessed from the Google Maps both for desktop and mobile devices (Android and iOS smartphones and tablets), and no update is required. Indoor maps will automatically appear when the user zooms in on a location and will disappear when zoom out. In establishments with several floors, such as shopping malls, it is possible to see what is on each floor using the floor alternator, which is located on the right side of the screen.
Google Indoor Maps is present in countries around the world and displays floor plans for more than 10,000 establishments. Business owners who want to add new floor plans to Google Indoor Maps can consult the guidelines on here.
