Google Latitude will have “short memory”

According to Google, the Latitude product, which allows you to view the location of friends in real time, will work with a short memory, following a privacy policy similar to the competitor Loopt.

The intent of this implementation is to prevent the product from becoming a means in which the police and other organizations want to search for information about the users’ past location. With the new policy, data will only be passed on in case of mandate or court decision, aiming to protect the user’s privacy as much as possible.

Although the product was officially launched last month, Google had not yet defined a public use term about its intentions and maintenance of the data generated within the service.
