Google is building a new cable in the Atlantic to connect the United States and Europe

Considering that 98% of international internet traffic circulates via submarine cables, Google intends to strengthen its connection between the United States and Europe. The cable Grace Hopper (name inspired by Grace Brewster Murray Hopper, a pioneer in computer science) will connect New York to Bude in the United Kingdom and Bilbao, in Spain, with the aim of improving the resilience of the technological giant's network for its products and services, revealed in a statement.

This is the fourth cable from Google, which joins Curie, Dunant and Equiano, with regard to submarine connections, to increase the capacity of your needs in the future, but also the level of security. This undertaking also marks its first investment in a private submarine cable connected to Spain, which will serve to fuel its partnership with Telefonica and improve the cloud infrastructure in Madrid.

The Grace Hopper is equipped with 16 fiber pairs, that is, 32 fibers and is being built by SubCom, a company specializing in underwater networks. Google reveals that the project is expected to be complete by 2022.

Google explains that Grace Hopper introduces a new switching system that allows increased security in global communications, and greater flexibility to move traffic wherever it is needed.
