Google Drive gains visual with Material Design to match Gmail | Backup

Google announced a new look for the web version of Google Drive in the coming weeks. On Thursday (10), the company released images with the interface, with changes to some icons and buttons, but without changing the functionality.

After the Gmail layout change, the platform for hosting and storing documents in the cloud will be revamped according to the search giant's Material Design concept. The idea is to establish a visual identity between the G Suite services.

The changes can be seen, for example, on the upper left side of the page, where the text "Google Drive" will be replaced by the service logo. In the case of companies that use the corporate version of the platform, the brand is positioned in the right corner of the display, next to the user's name.

The icons for the settings and help center options are already aligned with the search bar, while the "New" and folder access buttons take on a more rounded shape. In addition, the official font was also modified and the gray background turned white. The company said that the new layout will be available for all editions of the G Suite and should reach users in the coming days.

Material Design is a visual language developed by Google that, according to the company, seeks to synthesize the classic principles of good design through technology and science. One of the objectives is to develop a standardized interface for the users' experience on different platforms and devices.

This May, the company started a series of monthly product launches with the so-called Material Theme. The first to have the redesigned look were Gmail, Google News, Google Play and Google Home. Drive will be next and we expect it to be followed by Chrome. Recently, an experimental layout came to Canary, the back of the browser in which Google usually tests new features.
