Google buys AppJet to boost Google Wave

According to the Mountain View firm, the EtherPad team, which includes three former Googlers, will join the Google Wave team and continue to develop new collaborative tools. For current EtherPad users, Google warns that the service will continue to be available until March 31, 2010.

“Other real-time editors, such as Google Docs, work by relaying an updated copy of the document every 15 seconds. This creates a remarkable lag that gets in the way of collaboration. You start editing something, only find out 10 seconds after someone would have deleted it ”said the company's website.

“Etherpad updates a copy of the document every half second. This 30x increase in speed completely changes the experience. Their editions almost never collide with other users. So you can work confidently instead of shyly. ”
