Google announces In-app Billing on Android Market

Along with the launch of Android Market on the Web, Google also demonstrated a preview of its platform for selling digital content within applications.

The new service aims to offer a variety of content, from media files or photos, and visual content as new levels in games.

"When you use the In-App billing service on the Android Market to sell an item, Android Market handles all the checkout details so that your app can process all financial transactions," explains the company.

The Android Market billing process uses the same check-out service that is used when purchasing applications, which maintains the experience and information architecture already known to users.

In addition, the transaction fee for purchasing in-app content is the same as the transaction fee for purchasing in-app (30%), similar to the charge made by Apple on its iTunes App Store.
