Google and Intel announced on Tuesday a development partnership that would allow the world's largest processor maker to enter the Android smartphone and tablet market.
According to Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini, the first devices with the company's new chips, called Medfield, are expected to hit the market in the first half of 2012.
The Intel CEO also stated that several smartphone manufacturers should migrate to the new line of chips, which are based on the same technology as the processors used in PCs and Macs.
Recent industry rumors have already demonstrated a shift in Intel's focus by "temporarily" giving up the MeeGo operating system, developed in conjunction with Nokia.
The manufacturer's resignation would be related to the lack of interest of smartphone and PC manufacturers in the platform, according to specialized websites.
