Owners of smart TVs with the Android TV system now have another entertainment option this week: Globo Play, a streaming service that brings together soap operas, series, TV news and other TV Globo programs. To access the content, just search for Globo Play directly from the app store on your home television and install the app.
The novelty marks a partnership with Google (owner of Android TV) classified as “unprecedented in Latin America” by the broadcaster, and which goes beyond the offer of content. Android users – on mobile and on TV – get yet another option to subscribe to Globo Play: directly from Google Play, a store maintained by the Internet giant. Until now, it was necessary to access Globo’s online environment to subscribe.

Best apps for watching movies and series on mobile
The official application of Globo Play for Android TV brings the same interface characteristic of other versions of the platform. The user can browse through the various programs of Rede Globo, such as “A Força do Querer”, “Pega-Pega”, “Jornal Nacional”, “Novo Mundo” and “Mais Você”.
Some Android TV device owners had access to Globo Play. According to TV Globo, the previous version was based on HTML 5, a set of standards used on the web. «We now have a native version for Android TV that improves the user experience in both browsing and content consumption.»

The broadcaster explained that Philips and Sony TVs had different versions of Globo Play. With this week’s announcement, all smart TVs with the Google system will now receive the same version and reproduce the same experience using the video platform.
Globo Play is available on smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic manufactured since 2013; Philips brand from 2014; AOC from 2016; and TCL and Toshiba manufactured from 2017. The service help center has a complete list of compatible models.

The collection is the same as Globo Play on mobile phones and the web version, accessible from any browser. Newspapers are released in full and for free, as well as excerpts from dramaturgical productions. The full episodes of soap operas are reserved for subscribers. The price is R $ 15.90 per month.
Direct subscription on the Google Play Store
Fans of Globo’s streaming platform can subscribe on Google Play. When running the official application on any of the systems controlled by Google, the user will find payment options with gift cards, top-up or credit card linked to the Google account – the same used to rent movies from Google Play or buy paid apps.

Along with news on Android TV and Google Play, TV Globo confirmed that the Chromecast-compatible version received an update about two months ago. “We improved performance and approved [o app] with all of Google’s new rules, including support for DRM (copyright management over the displayed video), ”the company said in a note.

Simulcasting on mobile and PC
One of the attractions of Globo Play is the live broadcast of Globo’s programming, uncut, in the same way that it airs on TV. Called simulcasting, the feature is available on Android or iPhone (iOS) mobile apps, as well as on the platform website.
The user needs to allow access to the geographic location (usually provided by the phone’s GPS or by the network parameters, if it is a computer) to be able to see the streaming in real time. Two weeks ago, Globo Nordeste started showing the program that airs in the metropolitan region of Recife and adjacent cities, in addition to Rio de Janeiro, SĂŁo Paulo, BrasĂlia and Belo Horizonte.
THE simulcasting does not work on smart TVs.
