Not every day we can see the International Space Station in detail, except for some photos or short videos published by the astronauts on board. But this time, the station's inhabitants took a long guided tour of all the modules in the space complex, giving rise to a video over an hour. an opportunity to get to know the day-to-day workplaces, with different stories and curiosities, in a video recorded during the festive period of the new year.
The video was recorded in a single take, with two cameras fixed to each other, alternating between ESA astronauts Luca Parmitano and NASA's Drew Morgan. The video also serves as a farewell to Drew Morgan, who returned to Earth this Thursday after 272 on a mission, along with Jessica Meir of NASA and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka, both stayed 205 days in space.
The trio of astronauts landed this morning in the Kazakh desert, aboard the Russian Soyuz capsule, on a trip that took about three hours. Last week, a group of three elements arrived at the ISS to replace the astronauts. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to have the usual welcome party waiting for you.
Regarding the video recorded on the ISS, the Soyuz MS-15 capsule was shown, which took Drew Morgan to the space station, in addition to other parked spaceships, such as the Russian Progress MS-13, the SpaceX Dragon-19, the Soyuz MS- 13 and Northrup Grumman's Cygnus-12. You can see the rest of the crew, including Jessica Meir and Christina Koch exercising, as well as Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skyortsov and Oleg Skripochka. The astronauts also showed the bottom of the ISS, "closest to Earth", as one of the protagonists says of the video.
To help guide the tour, NASA has placed a small three-dimensional map, with a red dot pointing to where it is being recorded. See the video below:
In case you don't have time to watch the entire video, which is over an hour long, NASA has prepared time pointers for the different points on the ISS:
