Germans outside the consortium to acquire Qimonda

Qimonda loses Cabelte's investment

Making Qimonda’s business viable remains difficult. The Portuguese consortium set up to acquire Qimonda Solar has suspended talks with the Germans at Centrosolar, having decided to proceed with the project alone.

According to the Lusa agency, the Portuguese consortium, which includes DST, Visabeira, EDP, Inovcapital and the banks BPA, BES and BCP, says in a statement that «it was not possible to successfully conclude the negotiations that came to be maintained with the German partner Centrosolar «.

It should be noted that this Portuguese company was officially established on the 5th of June with the disclosure of an agreement principle for the acquisition of the solar assets of Qimonda AG (Itarion project) and for the financing of the respective project.

According to information made available at the time, the consortium would invest 150 million euros in the acquisition of 51 percent of the capital of the company that Qimonda held in this area.

Qimonda Solar is a photovoltaic cell production unit, still under development, created last year as part of a partnership with Centrosolar.
