Gartner: iPhones sales fell more than expected in Q3

Contradicting data released by companies Canalys,IHS Markitand Strategy Analytics in late October, the Gartner It recently reported that smartphone sales in the third quarter of this year were slightly weaker than expected, actually contracting 0.4% compared to the same period in 2018.

This of course directly affected the company's sales. Apple, causing the company's share to decline from 11.8% in the third quarter of 2018 to 10.5% in the last three months. In rough numbers, the Cupertino giant has marketed about 40.8 million devices a fall of 10.7% year on year. Nevertheless, Gartner infers that the initial adoption of the new iPhones was positive, suggesting that sales may improve in the last quarter of the year.

Sell from smartphones (Gartner)

According to Gartner senior research director Anshul Gupta, the habit of most smartphone users has changed: for the sake of value for money, they have preferred medium devices over flagships and input models. In addition, many of them are waiting for the 5G to expand to acquire new devices.

This change, however, reverberated for manufacturers like Samsung and the Huawei, which saw an increase in sales. On the other hand, the Chinese Xiaomi also saw a drop in the number of devices shipped in the third quarter.

Despite the numbers not very optimistic for Apple, there are still hopes for the company this holiday season. According to Gartner, sales of iPhones in China (one of the company's largest markets) are expected to increase by 6% over the past quarter, with increases expected also for other countries thanks to the popularity of the iPhone 11.
