Garmin launches Fnix 5 wearable GPS line at CES 2017; prices reach R $ 5,200

THE Garmin threw the line Phoenix 5 in Multisport wearable GPS at CES 2017, the largest technology fair in the world. Designed for different types of adventurers, the line consists of three models, which vary according to functionality and price.

According to the manufacturer, all Phoenix 5 models are devices for 24/7 use with extended battery life, daily activity tracking, heart rate pulse technology and a host of connected features. And users can switch between leather bracelets and metal fittings for tool-less sport silicone bracelets.

Below are some features of the three devices.

Phoenix 5

Measuring 47mm, the Phoenix 5 has a new design and is more compact than previous models like the 3HR Phoenix. It is available in a variety of colors and finishes with more bracelets (sold separately). Users can mix and match them with their choice of leather, metal or silicone bracelets and switch between them in seconds with no tools required.


FENIX 5S

Focused on adventures, the Phoenix 5S is a smaller device. At 42mm, the Phoenix 5S is comfortable for small wrists without compromising any multisport features. It is available in silver with a white, turquoise or black silicone bracelet with a mineral glass lens. The Phoenix 5S Sapphire has a scratch resistant sapphire lens and is available in black with a black bracelet, champagne with a water resistant gray suede bracelet or champagne with a metal strap. The Phoenix 5S Sapphire units also come with an extra QuickFit silicone strap.


Phoenix 5X

Embedded with mapping, cycling map routing and other navigation features like Round Trip Run and Round Trip Ride, the Phoenix 5X measures 51mm. With these features, users can enter where they would like to run or walk, and their wrist GPS will suggest suitable courses to choose from.

During an activity, easy-to-read guidance tips and upcoming turns are displayed as banners on the wrist GPS, so users are always aware of their route. In addition, users can use Around Me map mode to see different points of interest within range to help them become more aware of their surroundings.

You can also configure Phoenix 5X to see data overlays on mapping screens and to see important highlight information without having to switch screens during an activity. The Phoenix 5X is available with a scratch resistant sapphire lens.


All Phoenix 5 models come preloaded with the full multisport tool set for running, walking, swimming and cycling. Built-in navigation features include a 3-axis compass, gyro and barometric altimeter, as well as GPS and GLONASS support for tracking in more challenging environments than with GPS alone. Users can also keep their training statistics at their fingertips with a widget which shows training status and training load, among other functions.

Each of the new Phoenix 5 models has a water resistance rating of 100 cubic meters, and is built to withstand the beveled stainless steel elements, knobs and rear case.

Phoenix 5 can have up to two weeks of battery life in smartwatch mode and 24 hours in GPS mode. The Phoenix 5X can have up to 12 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and 20 hours in GPS mode. The Phoenix 5S can have up to eight days in smartwarch mode and up to 13 hours in GPS mode.

Phoenix 5, Phoenix 5S and Phoenix 5X will be available for sale in Q1 2017. Prices range from R $ 3,599 The R $ 5,199.
