Samsung's Galaxy Fold features powerful configurations and a 7.3-inch foldable screen for tablet-like navigation
Moving ahead of Motorola With your Razr 2019, a Samsung was the one who marketed the first foldable smartphone in Brazil. With powerful configurations and interesting multitasking features, the Galaxy Fold is already in pre-registration on the official website of Samsung as of today (17) and can be found for R $ 12,999.00.
“At Samsung, we are driven by the development of products and services that make a difference in people's lives. With the Galaxy Fold, we created a new category and boosted the entire industry ”.
Antonio Quintas, VP of the Mobile Division of Samsung Electronics
Presented worldwide during the Unpacked 2019in February, the Galaxy Fold it was commercially an innovation in the smartphone market. However, its official launch only took place in September, after correcting some problems that occurred with the first units sent to international vehicles.
Among them the most notable was the fragility of design, as the first models had the protective layer attached to the top of the screen, which many users believed was removable. When the film on the screen was removed, the device stopped working. In newer editions, the protective layer has been reinforced and there is no longer any chance of being confused with a film.
THE Samsung it also reduces the spaces at the top and bottom of the device to prevent the entry of dust and particles, protecting it from everyday problems. The foldable panel now has extra layers of metal under the screen.
O Galaxy Fold not so light. Only 263 grams with 6.9 mm of thickness when unfolded and 15.5 mm when folded, resulting in a smartphone that is both robust and elegant.
Altogether, the Galaxy Fold it brings two screens: when folded, there is a 4.6-inch (21: 9) Super AMOLED display and HD + resolution, which has edges that are a bit too large by today's standards.
When you open your smartphone, the Fold reveals a 7.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with QXGA + resolution and support for the HDR10 + standard. The magic happens thanks to a highly resistant layer of pollimide that replaces the glass, to create the so-called Infinity Flex (foldable screen). Because it is resistant, it allows the screen to be folded numerous times – there are tests that carry out the process hundreds of thousands of times, without any defect.
The idea that it fits in your pocket or is used with one hand, looking like a middle ground between a cell phone and a tablet, and this possibility that brings its greatest differential: multitasking.
When the screen is open, it is possible to use up to three applications simultaneously with the feature called Multi Active Window. In addition, the system can recognize when the screen is open or closed and makes automatic adjustments to applications and functions through the Continuity App.
It is worth saying that the Samsung made a partnership with Google and the developer community Android so that applications could be adapted to the Galaxy Fold. The device allows you to watch a video on the YouTube, search for something on Google and chat on Whatsapp simultaneously on small separate screens.
In addition, the Galaxy Fold has a unique user interface Android 9.0 for foldable screens, and one possibility is the migration from one screen to another without interference. A new One UI was developed specifically for the Galaxy Fold, so that most navigation information is on the left side of the screen, while on the right side it is practically exclusive for viewing videos, texts and maps.
Another point that calls the attention that the device accompanies six cameras: two on the inside, one at the front, and three at the rear.
The front camera has 10MP and f / 2.2 aperture with HDR, while the two internal cameras are 10MP (f / 2.2) and 8MP (f / 1.9). The most complete rear set – the same as the Galaxy S10: the main has 12MP with hybrid aperture of f / 1.5-2.4 with Dual Pixel and OIS, followed by a 12MP sensor with telephoto lens and aperture of f / 2.4 and 2x optical zoom, and ending with a 16MP sensor and lens ultra wide with f / 2.2 aperture. O Fold makes 4K recordings at 60fps, 1080p at 240fps or 720p at 960fps.
Hardware and Software
As the Galaxy Fold was released in early 2019, its configurations did not bring the latest Snapdragon 865 or Snapdragon 855+, from Qualcomm. Instead, a Snapdragon 855 chipset, an octa-core (1 × 2.84 GHz Kryo 485 & 3 × 2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4 × 1.78 GHz Kryo 485) runs on the inside.
On the graphics side, the Adreno 640 GPU does the job of image processing, being ideal for games and virtual / augmented reality. Even with an outdated chipset, the Galaxy Fold it comes with an incredible 12GB of RAM and a universal 512GB flash storage system, allowing you to read system data fluidly and extremely quickly. Regarding connectivity, the foldable comes with Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and UBS-C 3.1.
On the battery, there are two modules that add up to 4,380 mAh – giving about 6 to 7 hours of connected screen. If you need a charge, there is support for 15W fast charging, which can also do the reverse work and charge other devices at 9W of power.
O Galaxy Fold equipped with a stereo sound system developed by AKG with Dolby Atmos technology and microphone with active noise cancellation. Unfortunately, the Samsung removed the 3.5mm headphone jack, but a pair of Galaxy Buds earbuds is available in the box.
The Brazilian version of Galaxy Fold brings 4G and two chips (supporting a Nano SIM + eSIM chip). In the box, the smartphone also comes with a slim protective cover made of kevlar (same material as most bulletproof vests).
