At a G8 meeting held yesterday in Munich, under the German presidency, the interior and justice ministers of the eight largest countries argued that it is necessary to involve private entities in the fight against pedophilia on the Internet. The fight against the proliferation of sexual exploitation on the network must be increased, but governments cannot act alone, it concludes.
The group of eight, which includes Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and Russia, now calls for the involvement of several private entities, including Internet access service providers, IT professionals and Financial Institution.
«Children need to be especially protected against abuse in the form of the production and dissemination of child pornography. Electronic media allow the dissemination of child pornography on a large scale within seconds,» says a statement by the interior and justice ministers of the G6 following the first working session of the conference that takes place in the first week of June.
For this very reason Brigitte Zypries, German Minister of Justice, adds in the same document that it was agreed that to combat this proliferation of offenses + it is necessary to establish in a definitive and universal way that a child is a person under the age of 18 and it is necessary to include in this virtual child pornography, guaranteeing effective punishment.
The case of Madeleine McCann, the English child who disappeared this month in the Algarve, was used by Brigitte Zypries as an example of the need for international cooperation, quotes the Reuters agency.
Efforts to combat child pornography, pedophilia and the exchange of information and images on the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet are being carried out at various levels and the G8 has been working with Interpol, having created an international database of images of children who intend to help police forces in identifying victims.
