A recent study shows that the French police have already managed to save 50 million euros by migrating some programs to alternatives open-source.
The results have now led the authorities to prepare a transition plan for software free
Gendarmerie Nationale decided to start testing the software free for four years and gradually. In a first phase, they installed the OpenOffice package and, little by little, they started betting on other types of license-free platforms.
In 2006, they migrated to Ubuntu, installing it on 5,000 machines and, currently, they are ready to adopt the operating system open-source in all equipment, reaching 2015 with 90 thousand equipment composed entirely of free platforms.
