(3rd update) Microsoft has just made available for download the Portuguese version of Security Essentials, your free security solution for home use – on computers with Windows operating system.
Compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, the program offers antivirus protection and spyware, among other types of malicious software.
The aim is to reduce the number of users who continue not to use any type of solution against online threats, an effort that the company has been making in order to improve the image of its products in terms of security.
According to the company, this is “the first Microsoft security product to make use of the new Dynamic Signature Service, a technology that helps ensure consumer protection against viruses that are circulating without having to wait for the next scheduled downloads” .
Microsoft has been expressing its intention to present a free security solution since November 2008, but when the first version was launched in September 2009, it was only available in eight languages and 19 markets, with Portugal being relegated to a second phase.
At the time, Security Essentials recorded 1.5 million downloads – worldwide – during the week following the product’s launch, according to information released by the company to date. It is currently available in 25 languages and 74 markets.
Editorial Note: After Microsoft announced yesterday the availability of the Portuguese version, TeK checked the URL provided by the company and updated it, since the direct link did not work. The page was available for Portuguese, as well as the download link. Apparently this link was cut as the link now points to a page where it says that the product is not available for the Portuguese market and Portugal has disappeared from the list of countries where Security Essentials was made available, as you can see in the image below. We are awaiting a response from Microsoft regarding this issue.
(2nd update) In response to the questions posed by TeK, Microsoft has already clarified that the download is temporarily suspended due to a technical problem, a question explained in a new news published in the meantime Microsoft suspends Portuguese version of the anti-virus.
(3rd update) [13:51] However, the situation is now normalized and the website is now available, as well as the download link.
